Absolute Return Awards 2018: initial nominations announced

The awards ceremony will be held on March 28, 2019.

Absolute Return is delighted to announce the first round of nominations for the 14th annual Absolute Return Awards, recognizing firms that outperformed their peers in, what was for many, a difficult 2018.

The awards dinner will be held on March 28 at the iconic JW Marriott Essex House, New York. More details on the awards ceremony can be foundhere.

Absolute Returnremains committed to giving the highest accolades to those managers whose risk-adjusted returns outperformed their peers. This ensures firms are recognized for delivering strong performance alongside managing volatility. (For a full description of the methodology, please review the nomination criteriahere.)

This years nominees include Bridgewater Associates, Citadel and Millennium Management. Other managers vying for a spot on the podium include Renaissance Technologies, Ellington Management Group and Tilden Park Investment Group.

As we have done previously, our largest categories are split based on fund size to highlight funds that would otherwise be overshadowed by much larger contenders in the same strategy. For example, Credit & High Yield and Global Equity are divided between funds managing more than $500 million and those managing less.

Additionally, long term performance categories will remain split between equity-focused funds and all other strategies. Exclusively for $1 billion + manages, firms will continue to be judged on their performance during the past five and 10 years relative to their peer groups.

The provisional list of nominees is based on performance for the first 10 months of 2018. There will be two more rounds of nominations, with the final taking account of all 12 months returns for 2018. Given the fluctuations and uncertainty, November and December returns may significantly alter the final lineup of contenders.
